Because real love is colorblind...

Picture
Did you know large breed, black dogs are usually the last to be adopted and the first to be euthanized in shelters. There are many theories that try to explain this horrible phenomenon, but no matter what is said, these dogs are just as loving and good as other dogs. If a dog is colorblind and can love you no matter who you are or what you wake up looking like in the morning, why can't we also put aside our stereotypes to love a big black dog...

The Animal Rescue Site

Our Mission

Our mission at Black Dog Rescue is to raise awareness of the Black Dog Syndrome, to provide a safe haven for dogs, black and "blacklist" dogs especially, and to work with area shelters to promote the spay and neutering of our faithful, loving companions. No one will love you like a dog who was once abandoned. Please open your minds and explore our sight to educate yourself and your family on the plight of the shelter dog and open your hearts to the love that could be waiting for you.

We are currently located in Oxford, Maine. Our rescue makes trips from southern North Carolina to Maine to unite our rescue dogs with their forever families. Please contact us for more information about transport or to make an appointment to visit one of our dogs.
